A group of 65 visually and physically impaired women are among the dairy farmers in Longisa, Kenya who have joined hands to buy a new milk cooling plant. Longisa Set Kobor Women Group has beaten all odds of dependency to become successful dairy farmers. They are members of the  SOT Dairy Company which recently launched their milk cooling plant. Preparing for the Dry Spell
Lack of adequate and high quality feed is a major constraint to dairy cattle production on smallholder farms, particularly in dry periods. In north rift, south rift regions and parts of central Kenya, the prolonged dry season can last up to 6 months and during that period dairy cattle can be sustained on conserved forage and fodder from the high yields produced during the rainy season, when there is often an excess. Conservation can be through tube silage technology, appropriate for the smallholder dairy farmers with less than 10 animals.Read more

Sara has trained over 30 farmers in a period of two months. Farmers learn more from fellow farmers whom they easily identify with and whom they believe share similar problems and challenges. Sara shares her success story.
